Bob,

As everyone else on the response has written, the
Savage does vibrate at speed due to it being a large
single. It does not bother me as I travel at 65mph
every day for 45 minutes at a time.
As far as the oil leak it concerned, Savages do tend
to leak oil. My bike first leaked at the exact spot you
are describing (by the way, its front head bolt.) at 5K. I
had it fixed under warranty twice. I now have 34K+ on the
bike and have learned to live with it. As long as it remains
small I wouldn't worry about it. I just wipe it off each morning
with a little 409. I also re-torque the bolt once in a
while. It seems to help.
The bottom line is this. The Savage tends to have it's little
quirks, but they seem to be very reliable. In the year and a half
I have owned her. I am still on the original battery, the starter
is working fine. I have only adjusted the valves twice in 34K. I
have gone through two rear tires and am on my second front tire. My brake
front brake pads have been replaced once as well as my air filter.
That's it. I would still have them fix it under warranty. Don't live
with it until you have to. Good luck.
